George Alvord Named New Chair of NUEC Advisory Board
Foodservice executive George Alvord has been named the new Chair of the Advisory Board of the National Urban Education Center. Alvord is Chairman and CEO of Lenny Sub Shops, a fast-growing quick-service restaurant chain with more than 150 locations in 20 states, and previously served as CEO of Dobbs International, the multi-billion-dollar global leader in airline catering.
Alvord has been involved on the boards of several higher education institutions and organizations, but has a distinct passion for urban public education.
“The world is changing fast and becoming more and more competitive,” Alvord said. “If we are to have innovative companies and workers in the future, we need innovative schools now.”
Alvord asserts that building innovative schools is critical to all of our success, and has long supported the National Urban Education Center because of the key role it plays in equipping emerging district leaders to engineer change.
“I am so grateful for the hard work they do on behalf of our children,” Alvord said. “And I certainly want to do what I can to ensure they have the knowledge and training they need to be successful.”
